For over 50 years, Logan Clutch has been at the forefront of delivering high-performance hydraulic and pneumatic clutches for a wide range of industries, including marine, mobile, industrial, and hybrid drive applications. Our R, S, and P Series clutches are designed for durability, precision, and maximum torque transfer—ideal for demanding applications that require seamless performance.
What Makes Logan R, S, and P Series Clutches Stand Out?
When it comes to reliable torque transfer in a compact design, our clutches deliver unmatched efficiency. With sizes ranging from 2.5 inches (64 mm) to 9.75 inches (248 mm) in diameter, they fit seamlessly into various high-torque applications while maintaining a small footprint. Similar to our larger CH and HPC Series clutches (which extend up to 29 inches (73.66 cm) in diameter), these units offer:
✔ Fast engagement and quick release
✔ Hydraulic or pneumatic actuation
✔ Self-adjusting disc pack for reduced maintenance
✔ Wet or dry operation compatibility
✔ Custom modifications for specific application needs
How Do Logan Clutches Work?
The R, S, and P Series clutches function through a hydraulic or pneumatic actuation system. When pressurized, the piston clamps and locks the friction discs, separator discs, and release springs into a multiple-disc pack, transferring torque through the clutch to a drive cup, which is mounted to a sprocket, pulley, or drive shaft.
When the pressure is released, the separator discs disengage, maintaining a precise clearance between components—ensuring longevity and smooth operation.
Designed for Brake Applications
- S and P Series as Power-Applied Brakes: The hub is keyed to the shaft to stop rotation, while the drive cup remains stationary.
- R Series Flexibility: Either the hub or the drive cup can be used as the stationary member.
Self-Adjusting for Maximum Efficiency
Unlike traditional clutches that require constant manual adjustments, Logan Clutches are self-adjusting! The piston travel compensates for disc wear, reducing maintenance and ensuring consistent performance throughout the clutch’s lifespan.
Wet vs. Dry Operation
- R and S Series Clutches are ideal for wet applications and can be used within gearboxes or oil sumps, utilizing splash or forced lubrication.
- P Series Clutches are designed for dry operation, with sealed, greased bearings that require minimal maintenance.
Key Technical Specifications
- Torque Range: From 91 lb-ft (123 Nm) to 3127 lb-ft (4240 Nm)
- Max Pressure: 150 psi (10.3 bar) for wet applications, 100 psi (6.9 bar) for dry applications
- Speed Range: 1 to 2200 RPM, with optional stronger release springs for higher-speed disengagement
- Custom Configurations: Available for higher torque and actuation pressures
